Last weekend Sigulda hosted the fastes ice-skaters on planet in its very own European Championship of skating down the ice tracks. Unexpectedly, but in Optibet Ice on Fire final competition neither of regular winners made it to podium. Not Kilian Braun (SUI), nor his rival Philipp Auerswald of Germany could not be fast enough this time. Even Miikka Jouhkimainen of Finland being and competing here before did not make it to semi-finals. To be correct, a good half of all riders had a long and tough RedBull Crashed Ice season behind them and many of them were suffering major or minor injuries.
Although, it did not disturb Tristan Dugerdil (FRA), he immediately responded to an invitation and did not hesitate to take part in ''Siguldian''-invented race. The Crashed Ice top6 athlete demonstrated his skill right away- he was one of the fastest at friday's qualifying round, thus, gaining better start positions for the race.
Round after round, in an exciting and spectacular battle, four fastes athletes made their way to semi-finals- Jānis Petkevičs, Jānis Jasenovičs (bioth Latvia), Sebastien Babak Rastagar (IRN/FRA) and Tristan Dugerdil of France. In a Petkēvičs/Rastagar skate-off, Rastagar made it clear, that bronze is his, once again stepping on Sigulda podium and leaving Petkēvičs in the painful 4th spot.
Jasenovičs/Dugerdil duel however, turned out a lot more emotional. As Jasenovičs was considered a race leader right after Braun stepping out, it gave him even more stress as he had to go first against French. A a result, a big mistake at start adding a spectacular crash in curve 11. All Dugerdil had to do, was to ''bring it home'', which he successfully performed. Unexpectedly, but steady Dugerdil wins gold in 2017 European Championship in Sigulda!
Although it is nearly impossible to great and honor everyone, we greatly appreciate all athletes competing and all spectators and fans, making this race amnd place so special! As a reward, the ''big guys'' promissed to come back at even bigger count!
A special thumbs-up goes to Ronalds Ločmelis, who neverminding his broken ribs, successfully made it through 2 rounds!
Additionally, in a special prize giving ceremony, season overall winners were awarded with overall prizes- season's best score taken by Ronalds Ločmelis, followed by Jānis Jasenovičs and Aigars Melderis.

Our GREAT thanks goes to- Sigulda municipality, Optibet, Cat, RedBull, Sportland,Fiskars and others, we are extremely grateful for your support, making this event happen.
